Hello everyone,

I'm working on a house rule regarding combat, specifically the part where you succeeded in your combat roll but the other guy beat you.

Right now, a partial success in combat means you get your shield bonus.

=== === === ===
HOUSE RULE:
If you get a partial success in combat you can...
a: apply your shield bonus to your armor
b: if still able after damage is determined you can roll your own damage against
your attacker with the penalty of -1d6/10pts of damage received
(thus 1-10pts damage = -1d6, 11-20pts = 12d6, etc).

Decision of whether you are going to apply A or B must be made *before* you know how hard they can hit or how much damage they did to you.

comments please (grin)

This is very pro-heavily armored knight and prejudicial against the Picts! :P

Seriously, this will severely hamper a poorly armored fellow, who now has NO defense against the attacker. Also, it favors big strong guys (Saxon Berserkers, anyone?) who will now be able to make mincemeat out of anyone they encounter, as they will always hit. As long as they stay alive, that is.

Lets do the math: 6d6 Saxon hunk. +1d6 Two-Handed axe. +1d6 against the shield. +1d6 for Wotanic Religious Bonus = 9d6.

The knight does 5d6 generally = 17.5 points on average. The Berserk hits back with an equivalent of 7d6, even when he otherwise would have missed!

I don't even want to think about what would happen with a monster like a Giant...

In short, I urge you to reconsider! :)

I'd say no. The point of the partial success is that you were beaten...but managed to keep your defense up.

I was mostly thinking about Knight vs Knight combat. Have to admit that I had not thought of what happens if a berserker or giant was involved.

RIGHT - back to the drawing board (grin)

Thanks for the assist to you both.
